Some protest. Used books by Clancy, Daniel Steel and many other

for fuel value, but this is the first time I've actually seen such being
utilized.
We once saw a bookcase at one sale containing perhaps 200 Daniel Steel
hardbacks (in quite excellent condition) with a 10 cent sale price. We
considered using them as starter logs for our fire place. I'm sure they
ended up in a dumpster. |

What it was a funeral pyre for, was the environment. Why not

We do that frequently, especially when we come across the fill-a bag for
a $1 sales. We load up on current (donated) paperbacks & ship them
overseas to family members in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc to share amongst
their camps
Postage really isn't that much (under $7 for 15 lbs media - less than a
typical retail cost of one pb) and oddly, they most always arrive in
about 7 days (better than many inter US deliveries). |

That's because almost everything goes by air now. My Media

Because it's all for publicity. Just the mention of "burning books"
brings out the cameras and reporters (that he called to show up,
at the planned location and time).
I'll bet he sold a lot; based on what's listed, he should have been
smart enough not to warehouse them in the first place.

He should have given them to the local recyclers rather than having his little

Ah, but he wouldn't have created a bit of publicity that way.
Watch bookbuyers from all over the country flock to his shop,
hoping to catch a bargain before he burns more. It won't work.
